Dale Herigstad explores the future of navigation for Games™ magazine

Schematic CCO Dale Herigstad appears in the most recent issue of UK magazine, Games. The article, “Input/Output,” examines the changing ways we interact with games. One of the things Dale was asked about is what lies in store for gamers in the future. “I do see a time ahead when we could interact directly with hand gestures in gameplay and data viewing manipulation. The technology is here now but must become more accurate and fine-tuned in order for the experience to be like what we saw in Minority Report. At Schematic we have a working model of a TV interface that allows for navigation of content finding, volume control, and player control with simple, intuitive hand gestures. To navigate without hardware is a direct connection between man and machine. A rather pure experience. With the success of the Wii, gesture will increasingly become a component in interface. You could also make the case that interfaces will become simpler. Current controllers are pretty complicated, and that narrows the audience. I could also see a case where the controller goes away and users work purely with hand gestures and the language of motion.&rdquo

Schematic’s New York office recently developed an animated :30 spot for Fountain House, a professional self-help program for men and women recovering from mental illness. Fountain House, founded in 1948 and located on West 47th Street, pioneered the “clubhouse” model, which is recognized worldwide as one of the most successful models for rehabilitation.

To honor Fountain House’s 60th anniversary, Panasonic donated time on its AstroVision billboard. The video ran twice an hour throughout June at :19 and :48 minutes after the hour. Non-New Yorkers could check it out on the Times Square Cam...which featured the Schematic logo in the lower left corner.

The team-bolstered by 37-year-old Trevor Kaufman, who had sold his digital agency, Schematic, to WPP Group in early September-came through.
An interview with Trevor Kaufman, CEO of Schematic

By Dianna Dilworth
DM News
Published: November 08, 2007

Q: Why do larger agency players want to purchase digital agencies?

A: There are a couple of different models for holding companies. They buy and bring them as individual agencies within the holding company, for example, [WPP-owned] Wunderman’s acquisition of Blast Radius. Then there’s the situation like WPP’s purchase of Schematic, where the agency is left pretty much intact, but within the holding company structure. In the case where the company is sort of injected, it’s an opportunity for them to help change the DNA of the operating company and make them inherently more digital. In Schematic’s case, it’s a way of leveraging of specialized skills over the entire network. It has been successful because, in the end, it is providing better more integrated solutions for clients.
